 | David Willis Campbell (1929 - 2009)President of Clan Campbell Society NSW Branch since 1986 National President of Clan Campbell Society since 1999 ADC to His Grace The Duke of Argyll during his 1988 Bicentennial visit to Australia.
Member of the SAHC since 1983 Assistant Secretary 1984-1987 President 1994-1995 and 1997-2001 Honorary Secretary since 2002
David descended from an Argyllshire family which migrated to Australia in 1865, he was the 4th generation of pharmacists and Deputy Chair of Australian Pharmaceutical industries Ltd for 20 years.
In 1982 Alex Campbell, at the time President of the Clan Campbell Society of NSW, recruited David, whom he met working in his pharmacy. Alex Campbell thought, when David so enthusiastically joined the Clan Campbell, that he would one day make a good president and so it proved.
In 1988 David worked tirelessly to bring to Australia the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, together with Alastair Campbell, Younger of Airds. Talking with Alastair, Unicorn Pursuivant at the Court of Lord Lyon, David was convinced he should apply for Arms & after diligent research this was done, he became an armiger and was proudly able to display his arms.
As his interest deepened in his Scottish ancestry, he became involved in the Scottish Australian Heritage Council and served for a time as its President and then later, as Secretary, a position he retired from this year.
In March 2009 The Scottish Australian Heritage Council received the following from the Duke of Argyll:
From the Office of His Grace The Duke of Argyll Inveraray Castle, 29th March 2009
"It is with great pleasure that I appoint David Campbell as my personal representative to the Scottish Australian Heritage Council. David has been a long standing member of Clan Campbell Society since 1982. His outstanding work on behalf of Clan Campbell and the 25 years that he has served as a member, President and Secretary of the SAHC gives him the perfect opportunity to represent the Clan.
Without the dedicated efforts of Kinsfolk like David, the Clan and I would be unable to carry out our duties around the world. Sadly I am unable to be with you to personally congratulate you and thank you for your considerable and valuable contribution."
